Question : How much experience does one need to work at Home Depot/Lowe's (See Detail)?
I am considering applying for a part-time basic sales associate position for flooring/carpeting at either Home Depot or Lowe's. Do I have to be an expert at flooring and installation to get this job? How much flooring experience do I need or do they train you while on-the-job?Thanks!

All Answers: Answer #1They would likely train you. My brother used to work in the lumber department at Home Depot, andhe had no experience prior to that.

They may be willing to train you in calculatingsq. feet and sq. yds. from measurements. In mostcases, this may be done for you, as a salesperson, by outside estimators.You need to learnthat, and they may train you. Sometimes acustomer brings their own measurements, neveraccurate and cannot be accepted, but you can offera rough estimate.I did estimating for bothcompanies at one time, after retirement, Florida. I'm in TX. now.You do have to learn howinstallation is performed. There are many detailsand "pitfalls" that have to be considered. Estimators make note of these in detail.

Rarely do I actually see anybody there that hasany idea whatsoever about the department they workin. You'll fit right in.

My friend was a manager at Home Depot. They arehappy to get clean, sober people that occasionallysmile. They will be happy to teach you all youneed to know. PS: Home Depot stores are fined bythe home office if they have any employees injuredon the job. If you are involved in any accidentthey drive you to the nearest hosp. for treatmentand a drug test.
