Unused factory-made crystal will usually have asticker on the crystal surface.Hand-cut crystalwill sometimes bear a Maker's Mark.Any genuinecrystal can be authenticated as such by its mass -it is much heavier than normal glass.Be aware thatthere are many other makers of fine crystal apartfrom Waterford. Unless you've been told it'sspecifically Waterford, don't assume it isn't fromone of the other crystal manufacturers.

Answer #2
If the original label is not still on the piece, look for markings on the bottom. If you don't seeany, take it to a fine china store, where someonein the crystal department may be able to helpidentify it, based on the style of the piece, andperhaps its weight.

Answer #3
some waterford pieces have a tiny etched name onthe bottom that says 'waterford' and it can beseen clearly with a magnifying glass. waterfordis heavy, yes, and the edges of the cuts in theglass are firm, not sharp, but not blunt either. (actually they now are, older pieces are muchsharper) other types of glass that are as youdescribe are baccarat, and fine cut crystal warefrom europe and north america. you can try thisat your computer, go to ebay.com and type inwaterford and see if any of the pictures of theglassware for sale match any of your pieces, ifnot type in crystal and repeat! have fun!
