Question : Are the golfsmith iron sets a good deal?
I went there and tried them and they felt good. I just wanted to get a second opinion.

They are okay. They can fit you. Tough to tradethem in when you need to change again. Used clubplaces love brand names. But...remember it is thearcher....not the bow.

Golfsmith products are excellent products thatmeet and sometimes exceed OEM quality.Golfworks(Maltby) also makes excellent products. The issuewith component's are resale. A majority of thegolfing public do not have knowledge of thesecomponent items. All they know is what they seeon TV.. such as Nike, Ping, Callaway, etc... so..those OEM items retain good resale value. The otherissue with components... are just that: They arecomponents.. so you will have to have aclubbuilder.. build these clubs from scratch.. sothey will fit you.. but.. not any two golfers arealike.. so.. those clubs are only built and fitfor YOU....this in return, limits their resale...to pretty much nullBut.. if you have a chance.. donot shy away from components.. You won't noticethe difference from the big names.

Answer #4
Absolutely. I won't play a club that I didn'tbuild myself. As for resale value, that's lessbecause the original price is less.Would yourather pay $600 for an iron set that you might beable to resell for $300 or $300 for a set that youmight be able to resell for $100? Do the math.

Answer #5
It really depends on what your are looking for inyour irons. Golfsmith clubs have decentforgiveness and the custom built factors to thinkabout, but they are terrible in workability andoverall feel in general. If you are a betterplayer, you will notice a huge difference in thefeel and workability of these clubs. If you are amid to high handicapper, then the custom fittingand forgiveness is actually pretty nice. Dont kidyourself, just because you built the club custom, doesn't mean it is a good club. I can build a Kiacustom, but it still wont be a ferarri... Comparethe golfsmith clubs to similar types of clubs madeby the name brands. Do as much research as youcan before you make your decision. Irons are veryimportant, ask Tiger..... He has been playing withthe same shafts and type of irons (forged blades)since he was 14. The name brand might havechanged, but the general set up has not.
