Question : What is the best way to use a 1/4 carat diamond in an engagement ring?
I have a good quality diamond passed through the family I would like to use in an engagement ring. Just not sure if that is too small to use as the main diamond and if there are any settings that would look good with that size diamond?

Lucky you! Take it to your local jeweler, andcheck out all the different styles of mountingavailable - or design your own! As to the size...that's up to you... some people would say aquarter carat is too small, and some would loveit. If you think it's too small as a solitaire,put it into a mounting where it;'s not the onlystone.

Were you live is a big factor in whether a diamondis to small or two big. With out knowing that, I'dsay...Try a halo setting..it makes any centerstone look bigger...here is an example: (see linksbelow)Also you didn't mention the shape, but withthe halo you can put a round stone in a round haloor a squarer halo and it'll look great either way. So if your lady likes squarer shapes, it's agreat way to give her that and make use of yourdiamond. My last web address is a great exampleof that.
